About the Cigar Box Dulcitar (CBD)

The Cigar Box Dulcitar is an easy to play cross between a guitar and a dulcimer, even if you don't know a lick of music. This instrument is a dulcimer you hold and play like a guitar. The dulcitar is also known as a walking dulcimer. The body of the Cigar Box Dulcitar is made from a discarded or empty cigar box. 

I decided to call this a dulcitar, as opposed to a cigar box guitar, because of the style in which I play it. I play it like a dulcimer from sheet music and most of the cigar box guitar (CBG) enthusiasts play in a blues manner using a slide. I really enjoy the homegrown sound of the CBG's, but alas I am not very musically inclined and don't "have it in me". So I made a CBG, strung it like a dulcimer  and play more folksy music from slightly altered dulcimer sheet music.

To enjoy a dulcitar you DO NOT NEED any music knowledge. You do not have to know how to read confusing sheet music, you do not need to know any music theory, you do not even need to know what a dulcimer is. The dulcitar is for anyone that just wants to play some simple tunes.

Experienced players can really make a dulcitar sing! But that is for some one else to teach......
